Website Accessibility & Privacy

The Escondido Union School District (EUSD) is committed to privacy, accessibility, and providing the best possible experience for all of our website visitors. This page explains our efforts related to these important topics.

Introduction: EUSD websites vs. EUSD web applications

People often mistakenly think that anything accessed through a web browser like Chrome, Firefox, or Safari is merely a “website.” In fact, there is a distinction between what constitutes a website, versus what constitutes a web application. To clarify, as it relates to EUSD:

  • A website is a place where public information is available for public consumption. Websites cannot be edited by the general public (ie: they are read-only), and they usually do not require a username and password to view the public-facing information they contain. EUSD’s websites exist at the domains eusd.org (no www or other subdomain at the front of the domain name) and sites.google.com. Specifically, eusd.org is the district’s centralized website, and sites.google.com is the root domain name for many departmental and school campus websites.

  • A web application is a more sophisticated system where confidential and/or private information is stored securely, and individuals typically must log in to view or edit that private information. EUSD utilizes a variety of secure web applications to store and access confidential student and staff information. These applications include, but are not limited to: Google Apps for Education, PowerSchool, InfoSnap, MITI/PeopleSoft, and eSchool Solutions (Substitute System).

The remainder of this accessibility and privacy page primarily addresses EUSD’s websites, not web applications. If you would like to learn more about the privacy and security of some of EUSD’s web applications, please refer to our Vendor Privacy Policies page.

Website Accessibility Statement

EUSD is committed to providing user-friendly access to information for all of our website visitors.

As a result, we have designed and continue to maintain our district, departmental, and school websites with a goal of full compliance with the applicable Level A and AA standards of the World Wide Web Consortium’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0.

Despite our best efforts, if you happen to encounter an accessibility problem on an EUSD website, we want to hear from you so that we can fix the problem and/or provide the information in an accessible alternative format. Please call us at 760.432.2109 or send an email to web@eusd.org.

Privacy Disclosures

This section explains EUSD’s website privacy practices, as well as your options for opting out of some website-related services:

PROTECTING STUDENT INFORMATION AND PRIVACY

EUSD takes student privacy very seriously. To learn more about general student privacy matters, we encourage you to review:

With regard to EUSD websites, you can rest assured that we never publish private, confidential, or personally-identifiable student information on EUSD websites (eg: grades, social security numbers, brithdates, etc.). This type of confidential information can only be accessed by authorized district staff or parents / guardians utilizing secure web applications (eg: PowerSchool and/or the other web applications noted above).

The only time we ever publish information about students on public EUSD websites is when a parent has expressly provided permission to do so. When a parent provides such permission, we only publish student first names and last initial, student photographs, and/or student work as a way of showcasing the programs and accomplishments of EUSD and its students. No other personally-identifiable student information is ever published to EUSD websites.

Typically, permission to publish student names, photographs, and/or work is collected from parents / guardians during the registration and enrollment process prior to the start of the school year. If you are a parent or guardian of an EUSD student and you wish to revoke this permission, or if you cannot recall whether or not you granted this permission, please contact your school office.
