Good Morning Rock Springs School!

Today is Wednesday, January 22, 2014. The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with a high of about 76 degrees.

This morning I have a group of college bound Roadrunners from Roberts/Martinez class.

Next week, Mrs. Ocampo's class will be leading us in the pledge.

Today is...
Answer Your Cat's Questions Day

On this Day in History:
On this day in 1840, Under the leadership of British statesman Edward G. Wakefield, the first British colonists to New Zealand arrive at Port Nicholson on Auckland Island to establish the first European settlement.

Here’s a random Science Facts for today:
Babies’ cries can sound different in different languages.

Your Character Counts at Rock Springs School:
The Pillar of the Week is Responsibility, our third Pillar of Character, represented by the color green. When you think about  responsibility, think about being responsible for a green garden.

Life is full of choices. Being responsible means being in charge of our choices and, thus, our lives. It means being accountable for what we do and who we are. It also means recognizing that our actions matter and we are morally on the hook for the consequences.

According to Booker T. Washington, American educator, "Any mans life will be filled with constant and unexpected encouragement if he makes up his mind to do his level best each day."

Wellness Wednesday
Today is Wellness Wednesday. In our 12th week's celebration of healthy eating, we will feature Lima Beans to represent L in our A to Z Salad Bar. Lima Beans are a flat kidney bean that are green in color. In a one cup serving, you get half of the fiber that you need in a day. They help lower cholesterol and help keep the arteries in your heart clean.

Tomorrow is our Run for Reading Jog-A-Thon! Are you ready? Remember to wear tennis shoes and bring a water bottle.
  • The class that raises the most money will receive an Ice Cream Party and Extra Recess Time.
  • Class that runs the most laps will receive a pizza party with the principal.
  • The boy and girl that raise the most money in each grade level will receive a $5 Jamba Juice Gift Certificate.
  • The boy and girl that raise the most money school-wide will get a $75 Toys R Us Gift Card.
Teachers - check you email later today for any updates on the Run for Reading.

Safety First!
  • Please remember to walk when traveling through campus.
  • Also remember to use quiet voices in all academic areas.
  • Remember to play safe on the playground and when the bell rings to line up, walk to your line safely. We do not want anyone running as you could get hurt.
  • When you arrive at school in the morning, remember to sit at the lunch tables. All students are to remain sitting at the lunch tables until the duty teacher says that you may get up.
  • At the end of the day, your teacher will walk you to your designated exit for parent pick-up. If your ride is not there, you need to wait, stay at the front of the school and wait patiently and quietly for your ride.

This concludes today’s announcements. Thank you college bound roadrunners, and remember,
“Keep a smile on your face, it will increase your face value!”
