Good Morning Rock Springs School!

Today is Wednesday, April 17, 2013. The forecast calls for sunny skies with a high of around 68 degrees.

This morning, we have a group of college bound roadrunners from Mrs. McWilliam's class to lead us with the pledge.

Next week we will be joined by Mr. Truett's class for the pledge.

Today is...

Officially National Haiku Poetry Day! http://www.wikihow.com/Write-a-Haiku-Poem

On this Day in History:

On this day in 1970, with the world anxiously watching, Apollo 13, a U.S. lunar spacecraft that suffered a severe malfunction on its journey to the moon, safely returns to Earth. On April 11, the spacecraft left Earth with the mission of landing on the moon. Two days into the mission, disaster struck, and the astronauts transmitted the now famous message, "Houston, we've had a problem here," Diligence, ingenuity, and courage in the face of danger helped these astronauts and controllers on Earth scrambled to come up with emergency procedures. On April 17, 1970, the crippled Apollo 13 returned to Earth.

Here’s a random Science Facts for today:

The Moon orbits the Earth every 27.3 days.

Your Character Counts at Rock Springs School:

The Pillar of the Week is Citizenship, our sixth Pillar of Character, represented by the color purple. Think regal purple as representing the state.
A good citizen believes the country is worth keeping strong, understands the importance of citizen involvement in a democracy, and appreciates the impact of a single act and of millions of single acts.
According to John F. Kennedy, 35th President of the U.S., “ Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country.” http://www.jfklibrary.org/Asset-Viewer/BqXIEM9F4024ntFl7SVAjA.aspx?gclid=CJ3Sit_30bYCFW6CQgodB2gAew

This concludes today’s announcements. Thank you college bound roadrunners, and remember,
“Keep a smile on your face, it will increase your face value!”
