Good Morning Rock Springs School!

Today is day 81 of school on this Tuesday, January 6, 2015. The forecast calls for sunny skies today with a high of about 79 degrees.

This morning I have a group of college bound Road-Runners from Mrs. Werner's class to lead us in the pledge.

Next week we will be joined by Ms. Berns class.

Today is...
Bean Day

On this Day in History:
On this day in 1838, Samuel Morse's telegraph system is demonstrated for the first time at the Speedwell Iron Works in Morristown, New Jersey. The telegraph, a device which used electric impulses to transmit encoded messages over a wire, would eventually revolutionize long-distance communication, reaching the height of its popularity in the 1920s and 1930s.

Here’s a random Science Facts for today:
A gallon of water weighs just over 8 pounds.

Your Character Counts at Rock Springs School:
The Pillar of the Week is Trustworthiness, our first Pillar of Character, represented by the color blue. When you think about trustworthiness, think "true blue".

When others trust us, they give us greater leeway because they feel we don't need monitoring to assure that we'll meet our obligations. They believe in us and hold us in higher esteem. That is satisfying. At the same time, we must constantly live up to the expectations of others and refrain from even small lies or self-serving behavior that can quickly destroy our relationships.

According to Stephanie Ericsson, American writer, "When somebody lies, somebody loses."

MAP Testing
Begins next week. Be sure to remember to take your time, read the questions thoroughly, and do your best. Teachers, this would be a good time to review expectations and testing techniques.

5th grade week

Talent Show
Auditions are Friday, January 16th after school.  You must have your application turned in by Wed. the 14th to audition. Each person in your group must have an application turned in as well. Have fun with your performance and practice daily!!

Teacher Update:
  • Staff Meeting this Thursday
  • Leadership Team meeting next Monday
  • Writing Celebration next Wednesday

Safety First!
  • Please remember to walk when traveling through campus.
  • Also remember to use quiet voices in all academic areas.
  • Remember to play safe on the playground and when the bell rings to line up, walk to your line safely. We do not want anyone running as you could get hurt.
  • When you arrive at school in the morning, remember to sit at the lunch tables. All students are to remain sitting at the lunch tables until the duty teacher says that you may get up.
  • At the end of the day, your teacher will walk you to your designated exit for parent pick-up. If your ride is not there, you need to wait, stay at the front of the school and wait patiently and quietly for your ride.

This concludes today’s announcements. Thank you college bound roadrunners, and remember,
“Keep a smile on your face, it will increase your face value!”
