Good morning Rock Springs School.

We’re in for another soggy day on this Tuesday, February 28th, 2012. The forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies and chance of showers today with a high of 54.

This morning, we have some college bound roadrunners from ___________ to lead us with the pledge.

They are ...

  • students say their names
  • “Please stand...
  • Recite pledge

On this day in 1849, the first of the 49ers reached San Francisco. No, I’m not talking about football. I’m talking about those heart gold-seekers from History who rushed to California after gold was discovered at Sutter’s Mill in 1848. The first 49ers reached California on the steam ship named California on Feb. 28th, 1849. Ships from all over the world carried carried gold-seekers to our state. But most arrived in covered wagons by way of the Oregon Trail and the California Trail. Before the Gold Rush, the population of California was a mere 15,000 in 1848. The population increased to nearly 100,000 people by the end of 1849.

Science Fact

It’s time for some random science facts.

Random Biology Fact: Frogs eat their skin after they shed it.

Random Astronomy Fact: Aluminium is the most common metal in the Earth's crust (8 percent of its weight.)

This is the Season of Nonviolence - The Word of the Day is Faith
When Caesar Chavez was organizing farm workers, he challenged them to say, “Si, se puede” (yes, it is possible) when they didn’t know how they would overcome obstacles. Today, say, “Yes, it is possible,” even if you don’t know how your goal will be realized. Have faith and say, “it is possible,” until you find a way.

Teachers: Today is Tech Tuesday. Today’s workshop will be a repeat of iPod 101, in case you missed the first training. We will cover the procedure for using our new iPod Learning Labs in the classroom.

Next week, Tech Tuesday will be a basic training on how to use the spreadsheet, Numbers for your own purposes.

This concludes today’s announcements. Thank you college bound roadrunners, and remember,

“Keep a smile on your face, it will increase your face value!”
