Good Morning Rock Springs School!

Today is Tuesday, February 26, 2013 and day two of Read Across America Week. The forecast calls for sunny skies with a high of around 69 degrees.

This morning, we have a group of college bound roadrunners from Mrs. Conner and Mrs. Dias' class to lead us with the pledge.

Next week we will be joined by Ms. Roberts/Ms. Martinez's class for the pledge.

February 26th is officially, "Tell a Fairy Tale Day".

On this Day in History:

On this day in history, two national parks were established in the United States 10 years apart--the Grand Canyon in 1919 and the Grand Tetons in 1929.

Here’s a random Science Facts for today:

Twenty percent of Earth's oxygen is produced by the Amazon forest.

Your Character Counts at Rock Springs School:

The Pillar of the Week is Trustworthiness, our first Pillar of Character, represented by the color blue. Remember to think "true blue"

This is the Season of Non-violence:

Your word for the day is Faith
When Caesar Chavez was organizing farm workers, he challenged them to say, “Si, se puede” (yes, it is possible) when they didn’t know how they would overcome obstacles. Today, say, “Yes, it is possible,” even if you don’t know how your goal will be realized. Have faith and say, “it is possible,” until you find a way.

Read Across America Week

Today is day 2 of Read Across America Week. This week is dedicated to the love of reading.
  • Today is Guest Reader Day. You may have a guest come to your classroom today to read a Dr. Seuss book.
  • Seussical Words:
    • Kathlynn / McDowell = Foodles: a food with noodles
    • Maddie / Glaze = Clessy: an organized mess. Something that is clean, yet messy.
    • Ashliegh F. / Riley = Squagallydo: a hairdo that is all squagally.
  • Mrs. Stump has begun our Read Across America Bookmark contest. Information was put into teacher mailboxes this morning.
  • Don't forget that everyday this week at 9:45 we will have D.E.A.R. Time. That means we Drop Everything And Read. Yesterday I enjoyed D.E.A.R. time in Mrs. Glaze's 5th grade and Mrs. Frank read in Mrs. Goulart's 1st grade.
  • Tomorrow we will have Book Share Day:  Bring in a favorite book to share with someone. It’s not for keeps, just for the day.
This concludes today’s announcements. Thank you college bound roadrunners, and remember,
“Keep a smile on your face, it will increase your face value!”
