American Tag Day
On this Day in History:
On this day in 1919, the first transcontinental air race in the United States begins, with 63 planes competing in the round-trip aerial derby between California and New York. As 15 planes departed the Presidio in San Francisco, California, 48 planes left Roosevelt Field on Long Island, New York.
Here’s a random Science Facts for today:
The sky is blue because when sunlight collides with our atmosphere, colors of the shortest wavelengths (violet and blue) are scattered - and our eyes are more sensitive to see blue.
Your Character Counts at Rock Springs School:
The Pillar of the Week is Citizenship, our sixth Pillar of Character, represented by the color purple. When you think about citizenship, think regal purple as representing the state.
One is an effective citizen by doing things that:
• Remind us of our heritage
• Involve us in the democratic process
• Support individuals with a special responsibility for keeping the country strong
• Help us better understand the workings of our government
• Promote a sense of community
• Keep individuals and families strong
According to Thomas Jefferson, Founding Father and third U.S. president, "It is strangely absurd to suppose that a million of human beings, collected together, are not under the same moral laws which bind each of them separately."
5th Grade week.
