Good morning Rock Springs School.

Welcome to a wet Thursday, March 1st, 2012. The forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies skies with rain showers this morning becoming party cloudy as this afternoon. The high should be around 58. Let’s keep those jackets handy and stay dry.

On this day in history, Ohio became the 17th U.S. state in 1803. Kansas also became our 37th U.S. state on this day in 1867.

A big happy birthday to Yellowstone National Park! On March 1st, 1872 Yellowstone was established as the world’s first national park. Yellowstone lies in the northwest corner of Wyoming and spreads into Idaho and Montana. The park is well-know for it’s geysers and hot springs, the most famous geyser being “Old Faithful”. The government established Yellowstone as a national park in 1872 as a means of preserving nature and wildlife from development. It is named for the yellow rocks that lie along the part of the Yellowstone River that is north of the park.
