Good Morning Rock Springs School!

Today is Thursday, March 14, 2013. The forecast calls for sunny skies and high of around 84 degrees.

This morning, we have a group of college bound roadrunners from Mrs. Riley's class to lead us with the pledge.

Next week we will be joined by Mrs. McDowell's class for the pledge.

Today is...

National Pi Day! Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159. Pi has been calculated to over one trillion digits beyond its decimal point.

On this Day in History:

On March 14, 1879, Albert Einstein is born, the son of a Jewish electrical engineer in Ulm, Germany. Einstein's theories of special and general relativity drastically altered man's view of the universe, and his work in particle and energy theory helped make possible quantum mechanics.

Here’s a random Science Facts for today:

  • The first pies were filled with meat and called "coffins" which means "basket" or "box."
  • The most popular flavors of purchased pie: Apple, pumpkin, cherry, blueberry, and Dutch apple.
  • The average American eats six slices of pie per year.
  • Pie was not always America’s favorite dessert – in the 19th Century, fruit pies were a common breakfast food eaten before the start of a long day.

Your Character Counts at Rock Springs School:

The Pillar of the Week is Responsibility, our third Pillar of Character, represented by the color green. Remember to think Think being responsible for a garden.

This is the Season of Non-violence:

Your word for the day is Mission
“My life is my message,” says Gandhi. Write down what you want to stand for in your life. Note at least one way you can show, through action, that you stand for your beliefs. Take this action today.

Tonight is Rock Springs night at Chuck E. Cheese pizza. Come on out, have some good times, pizza, and support our school.

Tomorrow is RSU Friday! Be sure to show your school spirit by wearing school colors. Due to tomorrow's awards assemblies, we will not be having our Friday Morning Spirit Assembly in the Character Counts Quad.

This concludes today’s announcements. Thank you college bound roadrunners, and remember,
“Keep a smile on your face, it will increase your face value!”
