Good Morning Rock Springs School!

Today is Thursday, February 28, 2013 and day four of Read Across America Week. The forecast calls for sunny skies with a high of around 77 degrees.

Pledge:

This morning, we have a group of college bound roadrunners from Mrs. Conner and Mrs. Dias' class to lead us with the pledge.

Announcements:

Next week we will be joined by Ms. Roberts/Ms. Martinez's class for the pledge.

February 28th is officially, "National Public Sleeping Day".

On this Day in History:

On this day in 1953, Cambridge University scientists James D. Watson and Frances H.C. Crick announce that they have determined the double-helix structure of DNA, the molecule containing human genes.

Here’s a random Science Facts for today:

The Earth's temperature rises slightly during a full moon.

Your Character Counts at Rock Springs School:

The Pillar of the Week is Trustworthiness, our first Pillar of Character, represented by the color blue. Remember to think "true blue"

This is the Season of Non-violence:

Your word for the day is Groundedness
Gandhi said, “To forget how to dig the earth and tend the soil is to forget ourselves.” And Black Elk said, “Some little root of the sacred tree still lives. Nourish it, that it may leaf and bloom and fill with singing birds.” Today place a seed in the earth or nurture a plant.

Hearts for Huntington's Disease:

So far, RSU students have collected $895. That means we only have $105 to go to reach our goal of $1000. Tomorrow is the last day so let's reach that goal!

Read Across America Week:

Today is day 4 of Read Across America Week. This week is dedicated to the love of reading.
Today is Green Day. Mrs. Frank and I enjoyed a great breakfast of Green Eggs and Ham this morning with our RSU friends. We'll also be roaming campus today looking for the greenest class!
  • Seussical Words:
    • Mrs. Glaze's Class = Grob: great job
    • Jaxson / Mrs.Zacharias = hookbook: a hook on your hat that you hang a book on so you can read all day.
    • Luis / Ms. S. Isherwood = truebluepop: a soda that makes you tell the truth.
  • Be sure to get you bookmarks turned in to Mrs. Stump for the Read Across America Bookmark contest.
  • Don't forget that everyday this week at 9:45 we will have D.E.A.R. Time. That means we Drop Everything And Read. Yesterday I enjoyed D.E.A.R. time in Ms. Peter's 3rd grade and Mrs. Frank read in Mrs. Schmottlach's Kindergarten.
  • Tomorrow will be Cat in the Hat Day: If you have a Cat in the Hat hat, wear it. If you don't, make one to wear. Tomorrow is RSU Friday and it would be pretty cool to see a sea of hats at the assembly. It will be your chance to say,
    • “Look at me!
    • Look at me!
    • Look at me NOW!
    • It is fun to have fun
    • But you have to know how.”

This concludes today’s announcements. Thank you college bound roadrunners, and remember,
“Keep a smile on your face, it will increase your face value!”
