Good Morning Rock Springs School!

Today is day 107 of school on this Thursday, February 12, 2015. The forecast calls for sunny skies and wind today, with a high of about 84 degrees.

Pledge:

This morning I have a group of college bound Road-Runners from Mrs. Baier's classes to lead us in the pledge.

Next week we will be joined by Mr. Plunkett's class.

Announcements:

Today is...
Extraterrestrial Culture Day

On this Day in History:
On this day in 1809, Abraham Lincoln is born in Hodgenville, Kentucky. Lincoln, one of America's most admired presidents, grew up a member of a poor family in Kentucky and Indiana. He attended school for only one year, but thereafter read on his own in a continual effort to improve his mind. As an adult, he lived in Illinois and performed a variety of jobs including stints as a postmaster, surveyor and shopkeeper, before entering politics. Lincoln became our 16th president in 1861.

Here’s a random Science Facts for today:
Tropical rain forests are a habitat for 80% of the world's insect species.

Your Character Counts at Rock Springs School:
The Pillar of the Week is Citizenship, our sixth Pillar of Character, represented by the color purple. When you think about citizenship, think regal purple as representing the state.

One is an effective citizen by doing things that:
  • Remind us of our heritage
  • Involve us in the democratic process
  • Support individuals with a special responsibility for keeping the country strong
  • Help us better understand the workings of our government
  • Promote a sense of community
  • Keep individuals and families strong
According to Margaret Mead, American anthropologist, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

MAP Testing
Testing today is Mrs. Dietz class. Be sure to remember to take your time, read the questions thoroughly, and do your best.

Library
4th grade week
The library will be closed next. week.

Teacher Update:
Thursday 2/12 = Grade-Level Collaboration

Safety First!
  • Please remember to walk when traveling through campus.
  • Also remember to use quiet voices in all academic areas.
  • Remember to play safe on the playground and when the bell rings to line up, walk to your line safely. We do not want anyone running as you could get hurt.
  • When you arrive at school in the morning, remember to sit at the lunch tables. All students are to remain sitting at the lunch tables until the duty teacher says that you may get up.
  • At the end of the day, your teacher will walk you to your designated exit for parent pick-up. If your ride is not there, you need to wait, stay at the front of the school and wait patiently and quietly for your ride.
RSU Friday
Tomorrow is RSU Friday. Show your school spirit by wearing your Rock Spring shirt and we'll see you in the Character Counts Quad for the morning assembly.

This concludes today’s announcements. Thank you college bound roadrunners, and remember,
“Keep a smile on your face, it will increase your face value!”
