Good Morning Rock Springs School!

Today is day 20 of school on this Tuesday, September 16, 2014. The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies today with a high of about 96 degrees.

Pledge:

This morning I have a group of college bound Road-Runners from Mrs. Roberts/Martinez's class to lead us in the pledge.
Next week we will be joined by Mrs. Sylliaasen's class.

Announcements:

Today is...
Mayflower Day

On this Day in History:

On this day in 1893, the largest land run in history begins with more than 100,000 people pouring into the Cherokee Strip of Oklahoma to claim valuable land that had once belonged to Native Americans. With a single shot from a pistol the mad dash began, and land-hungry pioneers on horseback and in carriages raced forward to stake their claims to the best acres.

Here’s a random Science Facts for today:
The smallest bone in the human body is the stapes or stirrup bone located in the middle ear. It is approximately 0.11 inches long.

Your Character Counts at Rock Springs School:

The Pillar of the Week is Responsibility, our third Pillar of Character, represented by the color green. When you think about  responsibility, think about being responsible for a green garden.

Life is full of choices. Being responsible means being in charge of our choices and, thus, our lives. It means being accountable for what we do and who we are. It also means recognizing that our actions matter and we are morally on the hook for the consequences.

According to Henri F. Amiel, Swiss writer, “Our duty is to be useful, not according to our desires but according to our powers.”

MAP Testing:

MAP testing returns today. Please remember to be quiet and respectful around the computer lab for testing. Also, please do not walk through the lab during testing.

Testing today will be Mr. Hernandez and Mrs. Heiland.

Teachers:

We will be on rainy day schedule due to the extreme heat. Teachers, please refrain from doing PE tomorrow and keep your students inside for recess. Indoor board games, videos from the Wiki, etc. are great alternatives. Please remind students to drink plenty of water and we will hold lunch in the MPR.

If you have any issues tomorrow, please call the office immediately.

Safety First!
  • Please remember to walk when traveling through campus.
  • Also remember to use quiet voices in all academic areas.
  • Remember to play safe on the playground and when the bell rings to line up, walk to your line safely. We do not want anyone running as you could get hurt.
  • When you arrive at school in the morning, remember to sit at the lunch tables. All students are to remain sitting at the lunch tables until the duty teacher says that you may get up.
  • At the end of the day, your teacher will walk you to your designated exit for parent pick-up. If your ride is not there, you need to wait, stay at the front of the school and wait patiently and quietly for your ride.

This concludes today’s announcements. Thank you college bound roadrunners, and remember,
“Keep a smile on your face, it will increase your face value!”
