Good Morning Rock Springs School!

Today is day 39 of school on this Monday, October 13, 2014. The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies today with a high of about 85 degrees.

Pledge:

This morning I have a group of college bound Road-Runners from Mrs. Goulart's class to lead us in the pledge.

Next week we will be joined by Ms. J. Isherwood's class.

Announcements:

Happy Birthday:
Ms. Delfin

Today is...
National Chess Day. It is also Columbus Day!

On this Day in History:

The cornerstone is laid for a presidential residence in the newly designated capital city of Washington. In 1800, President John Adams became the first president to reside in the executive mansion, which soon became known as the "White House" because its white-gray Virginia freestone contrasted strikingly with the red brick of nearby buildings.

Here’s a random Science Facts for today:
Fleas can jump 130 times higher than their own height. In human terms, that's a 6ft tall person jumping 780 ft in the air!

Your Character Counts at Rock Springs School:

It's Pillars of Character Week at RSU!

Are you a TRRFCC (terrific) student? If you are then you are demonstrating the Six Pillars of Character.

Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship.

This week, make a formal promise-keeping arrangement: a contract. Pick one of the Pillars and decide which one you want to be better at representing. Make a contract with yourself to strengthen that Pillar of Character and thus, strengthen yourself. On the contract, make a list of the actions you could do to reach this goal.

According to Helen Keller, American social activist, public speaker and author, "Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired, and success achieved."

MAP Testing:
MAP Testing continues today with Mrs. Sylliaasen and Ms. Peters in the computer lab, and Ms. S. Isherwood testing with the CoW.

Parent Conferences:
It's Parent Conference week. Students, there will not be any school this Thursday and Friday as your teachers will be meeting with your parents.

Library:
If you have any overdue books, please get them turned back in to the library. We have many other student that would like to enjoy them.

Safety First!
  • Please remember to walk when traveling through campus.
  • Also remember to use quiet voices in all academic areas.
  • Remember to play safe on the playground and when the bell rings to line up, walk to your line safely. We do not want anyone running as you could get hurt.
  • When you arrive at school in the morning, remember to sit at the lunch tables. All students are to remain sitting at the lunch tables until the duty teacher says that you may get up.
  • At the end of the day, your teacher will walk you to your designated exit for parent pick-up. If your ride is not there, you need to wait, stay at the front of the school and wait patiently and quietly for your ride.

This concludes today’s announcements. Thank you college bound roadrunners, and remember,
“Keep a smile on your face, it will increase your face value!”
