Good Morning Rock Springs School!

Today is Friday, January 11, 2013. The forecast calls for a mostly sunny skies with a high of around 48 degrees.

Pledge:

This morning, we have a group of college bound roadrunners from Mr. Plunkett's class to lead us with the pledge.

Announcements:

Next week we will be joined by Mr. Hernandez's fifth grade for the pledge.

January 11th is officially, "Milk Day".

On this Day in History:

On January 11, 1878 milk was reportedly delivered in bottles for the very first time. Prior to this, milk was brought door to door in large metal cans and they would ladle you out a portion.

Also on this day in 1908, U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt declares the massive Grand Canyon in northwestern Arizona a national monument.

Here’s a random Science Facts for today:

A lizard sticks its tongue out to smell.

Your Character Counts at Rock Springs School:

The Pillar of the Week is Citizenship, the sixth Pillar of Character, represented by the color purple:
What is a good citizen?
An effective citizen is someone who takes time away from their “pursuit of happiness” to do things that sustain our freedoms and keep the country safe.
These things, call them citizen actions, are done on a day-to-day, week-to-week basis; when the opportunities arise; and when action is needed. Some are easy, some are fun and some require sacrifice.
A good citizen also:
believes the country is worth keeping strong,
understands the importance of citizen involvement in a democracy, and
appreciates the impact of a single act and of millions of single acts.
According to a Chinese proverb, "Laws control the lesser person. Right conduct controls the greater one."

MAP testing begins next week! We have a new way of MAP testing. Your teacher will give you more information on the new MAPs test as your testing day draws near.

This concludes today’s announcements. Thank you college bound roadrunners, and remember,
“Keep a smile on your face, it will increase your face value!”
